CALNEURO was established in 1982 and overseen by Alexander Bystritsky, M.D. Director of the Anxiety Disorders Program, University of California School of Medicine at Los Angeles. CALNEURO works in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry to conduct year-round clinical trials with the goal of improving treatments and outcomes for patients suffering from a broad range of psychiatric conditions. Tanya Vapnik, Ph.D
Dr. Vapnik has been working in the field of clinical research for over 20 years. She began as a Research Nurse Coordinator with the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Institute in 1992, where she is still presently working as a clinical principal investigator and psychologist in the Anxiety Disorders program. During her work in the Neuropsychiatric Institute she grew through the ranks of clinical research and participated as a rater, manager and Sub-I in multiple Los Angeles clinical trials. Dr. Vapnik received her doctorate in clinical psychology in 2001, and afterwards began working as a clinical psychologist in her own private practice. Around the same time, Dr. Vapnik started working as a Principal Investigator at the CALNEURO. Today, she continues her work in clinical research, with UCLA and now serves as Vice President of CALNEURO.
Emil Soorani, M.D.
Dr. Soorani serves as a clinical research investigator for CALNEURO. Dr. Soorani is a board certified physician with over 25 years of experience. He maintains a Medical/Psychiatric practice caring for Psychiatric patients as well as medically and surgically ill patients, while teaching at the UCLA Anxiety Disorder Clinic, performing medical legal consultation, and also as a speaker for pharmaceutical companies.
Lilly Rousseva-Stoyanova, Ph.D
Dr. Rousseva received her doctorate degree from the Institute of Psychology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She has earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, from the Technical University in Germany as well as her Master’s degree in Psychology from the Humboldt University located in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Rousseva-Stoyanova has been working at CALNEURO as a therapist and a clinical research rater since 2004. She has experience with adolescents and children. Her experience in the field of psychology and patient rapport make her invaluable to her patients.
Mrs. Lerner-Roiz has been working in clinical research for nine years. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of California, Irvine, where she interned as a research assistant in the field of diabetes. After several years of working as a clinical research coordinator in areas such as asthma and allergies, Lerner-Roiz earned a Master’s degree in Health Science from Western University. Upon graduation, she joined CALNEURO as the Clinical Research Manager, and has overseen the growth of the clinical research department through numerous successful medical trials in Los Angeles. As her job responsibilities increased and widened, she has advanced to a Clinical Trial Director.
Ms. Fosteson has been working in clinical research for six years. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physiological Science. Since 2008, she has worked in medical research managing clinical trials in various fields including asthma, allergy, cholesterol, diabetes, and mental health. Fosteson joined the CALNEURO team in 2010 where she started as a Senior Research Coordinator and continues to grow as a Clinical Research Manager.
